Sebastian Walter

Since 2017 I am a Software Developer and Senior Data Scientist at Semalytix GmbH.

From June 2012 until November 2016 I was a Research Associate and PhD student in Prof. Dr. Philipp Cimiano's Semantic Computing Group at CITEC Bielefeld University.
My major research interest lies in the area of computational linguistics, computational semantics, with a focus on ontology-based natural language understanding and question answering. In this time I worked on the project Kognihome and the EU FP7 projects LIDER and Portdial.
My PhD thesis has the title Generation of Multilingual Ontology Lexica with M-ATOLL. In this work I introduced a framework which extracts valid lexicalizations for a given ontology in respect to a text corpus. The outcome is a lexicon in the lemon-format and is published at DBlexipedia which is a nucleus for a multilingual lexical Semantic Web.

I hold a BSc in Cognitive Informatics and a MSc in Informatics in the Natural Sciences from Bielefeld University.

Prior to my position as a Research Associate, I was a part-time Research Assistant in Prof. Dr. Ipke Wachsmuth's Artificial Intelligence Group at Bielefeld University and in Prof. Dr. Philipp Cimiano's group.

I am also a qualified paramedic and worked at DRK Kreisverband Coesfeld before starting my Bachelor's studies at Bielefeld University.
